July 9-19, 2022: French Polynesia Society Islands

This Deep Dive will get us up close and personal with the nature, culture, and languages of the Society Islands archipelago: Tahiti, Mo'orea, Huahine, Taha'a, Raiatea, Maupiti, and Bora Bora. We will attend the Heiva I Tahiti international 'ori Tahiti competition, hike to the Belvedere of Mo'orea, navigate the islands of Huahine, Taha'a, and Raiatea aboard a private catamaran, visit vanilla farms and snorkel pristine reefs, search for mantas, take part in Polynesian familial customs, and plunge into the immaculate lagoon of Bora Bora. Pre-departure Tahitian and French language workshops included.

October 8-15, 2022: Martinique, French Caribbean

Love rum? Love the Caribbean? These Deep Dives will launch you deep into the historical, environmental, and cultural context of the world’s most widespread spirit. Rum has played a significant role in the history of the Caribbean islands, and vice versa. We will visit the islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique to seek out some of the most exquisite rhums vieux on the planet, to learn about its deeply rooted origins in Afro-Caribbean history, and of course to marvel at the stunning ecological offerings of these islands’ mers et terres.

October 22-30, 2022: CCSAE Uganda Donors Safari

Join the Greater Van Nuys Rotary Club and Island Immersion on our inaugural Uganda donors safari in support of CCSAE – Child Care Support And Education Organization. Founded by Grace Agaba and based in Kanoni, Uganda, CCSAE provides care, shelter, schooling, and vocational training for children without parents. Grace will lead us on this 8-night/9-day adventure that will take our travelers to visit CCSAE and then to experience some of the premier wildlife destinations in Uganda including big game safari and chimpanzee trekking in and around Queen Elizabeth National Park and mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

Rum has played a significant role in the history of the Caribbean islands, and vice versa. We will visit the islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique to seek out some of the most exquisite rhums vieux on the planet, to learn about its deeply rooted origins in Afro-Caribbean history, and of course to marvel at the stunning ecological offerings of these islands’ mers et terres.

2023 Māori and Mountains of New Zealand:

Aotearoa. This is the Māori name for the stunning islands of New Zealand. In this I.I. Deep Dive, we will explore the Māori’s rich cultural and historical presence in the islands. Beginning in Auckland, we will work our way through Rotorua, Tāupo, and cross into the southern island all the way down to Queenstown/Wanaka and the impressive Milford Sound.

2024 Rhinos and Winos:

This Island Immersion Deep Dive calls to the nature lover and fermented grape lover alike. Our journey through Southern Africa will take you to the stunning Victoria Falls, the unparalleled wildlife destination of Botswana’s Okavango Delta, and the picturesque winelands of Cape Town in South Africa. Safari, history, culture, and wine converge into one journey to be remembered for a lifetime.

2025 Antarctica Expedition:

This highly anticipated Island Immersion Deep Dive is a gratuitous “promised myself I’d get there by the time I’m 40” lifetime milestone adventure. Join me! From Argentina’s Ushuaia, fin del mundo, we will embark by boat to the world’s southernmost continent. This is a voyage for the rugged and adventurous traveler!
